I just checked my eBahn Bentley CD and in fact there is a running design change where VW split the Timing Belt cover that the motor mount allowing for much easier replacement. I have a build date on my MKV (BPY engine) of 12/2005 and bought it new in May 2006 (they called it 2006.5 on the sticker)

Gotcha, yea mine doesn't look like that. The early BPY engines got a different t-belt cover. You will need to follow this DIY, then remove the 3 bolts holding the bracket to the side of the engine, before you can swap that cover. Those 3 bolts can be a little tricky, you may have to jack the engine up or down a little to get at them.

Here is the photo. See the hole on lower right side. This is the area for motor mount:

The upper timing belt cover should fit over the top of the engine mount. Do you have a picture of the replacement cover you're talking about?

The replacement timing cover is easily 12 inches long and has a hole where the motor mount goes through to the engine. I was hoping it to be easier.

Yes, but you shouldn't have to do all that to remove just the upper cover.
